The Eastern arc mountains which stretches from the South-central highlands of Tanzania to North East then to South east Kenya is among the most 20 diverse habitats in the world .Over 800 plants are endemic to this Mountains, 40 reptiles and more than 30 birds are also endemic here while others are special restricted to the southern highlands through eastern arch and the nearby coastal forest.We will mainly focus on endemics ,near endemic and Southern highlands specialities

Your Itinerary

Arrival and bird in Arusha

We will pick you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drive you to Arusha at Ngaresero lodge and do birding there for highland forest birds then overnight there

South Pare Mountains to Magamba Forest

We will drive to South pare Mountains with picnic lunches for endemic south pare white eye and distinctive paarensi race of bar throated apalis , other birds here includes Hunter's, Gorgeous, Beautiful, Black bellied, Usambara double collared and Tsavo sunbirds, East African endemic East Coast flycatcher, Fulleborns and East Coast boubou, then later drive to Magamba forest in the evening.Night at Muller's Mountain lodge

3 & 4

Magamba Forest-West Usambara

We will bird here for the Usambara Endemics such as Usambara weaver, Usambara akalat, Usambara greenbul, Usambara eagle owl, Usambara hyliota, Usambara nightjar, others include Mountain tiny and Shelley's greenbuls, Red faced crimsong wing, White chested alethe, Spot throat, Southern yellow white eye, Malachite sunbird, Grey headed negrofinch, Bar tailed and Narina trogon, Purple crested and Livingstone turacos, Green barbet and many more.Night at Muller's Mountain lodge

5 & 6

Amani Nature Reserve-East Usambara

We will leave Magamba early and arrive in Amani before lunch then after lunch do an evening birding, the following day we will do a proper birding here for birds such as near endemic Amani and Plain-backed sunbirds, Sokoke pipit, Sokoke scops owl, Red tailed ant thrush, Olive woodpecker, Sharpe's akalat, Usambara blue bill, Usambara tailor bird, Black fronted and Gorgeous bushshrikes, Green headed oriole,Grey headed silverbill, Oriole finch, Bohm's and Mottled spine tails, Forbe-Watsons swifts, Barred owl, Brown headed parrot, Yellow throated woodland warbler, Olive ibis, Grey and Black cuckoo shrikes, Pale illadopsis, Eastern Nicator, Lowland tiny greenbul, East Coast akalat, East Coast batis and many others.Night at Emau hill or Amani Rest House

Amani Nature Reserve to Dar es salaam

We will bird the camp for a fee hours then drive for 5 hours to Dar es salaam city , we will do a bird walk at Pugu hills or Jangwani Salt pans.Night in Dar es salaam

Dar es salaam to Uluguru Mountains

We will leave Dar es salaam with picnic lunches then drive to Uluguru mountains where we will enjoy an evening birding .Night at Arc hotel

9 & 10

Uluguru mountains

We will bird for endemics such as Uluguru bushshrike, Uluguru Mountain greenbul, Uluguru violet backed sunbird, Yellow throated mountain greenbul, Winifred's warbler, others includes Livingstone turaco, Shelley's greenbul, Olive flanked robin chat, Red capped forest warbler, White winged Apalis, Dark batis and many more

11 & 12

Ukaguru and Rubeho mountains

We will search this Mountains for endemic Rubeho double collared sunbird, Rubeho warbler, Rubeho forest patriage, Others includes Usamabara weaver, Moreau's sunbird,White tailed crested flycatcher, Waller's starlings, Striped faced greenbul just to mention but afew.Night in a lodge

13 & 14

Mikumi National Park

Here we will bird for Miombo specialities such as Miombo blue eared starlings, Miombo wren warbler, Miombo double collared sunbird, Speckled throated and Bennett's woodpecker, Racket tailed roller, Grey penduline tit, Arnott's chat, White crowned lapwing, Reichard's seedeater, Livingstone flycatcher, Blue waxbill, endemic Hoffman's sunbird, Yellow throated bush sparrow, Brown headed apalis, Jameson's and African firefinches, Pale billed hornbills and othere.Night at Tanswiss cottages

15 & 16

Mufindi Highlands Forest

We will leave Mikumi at around 0700hours and drive for five hours to Mufindi.After lunch we do an evening bird walk then the next morning we will do a full day for birds such as Endemic Iringa akalat, Kipengere seedeater, Uhehe fiscal, Yellow browed seedeater, Montane widowbird, Cabani's bunting, Little yellow flycatcher, Black bellied, Kenrick and Waller's starlings, Spotted ground thrush, Pale crowned cisticola ,Forest double collared sunbird and many more.Night at Mufindi Farm Lodge

17 & 18

Udzungwa Mountains National Park

We will leave Mufindi and drive to the Udzungwas arriving before lunch time, we will check in at our hotel and later do an evening birding, the next morning we will do a full day birding for endemic Udzungwa forest patriage, Rufous winged sunbird, Chapin's apalis, Moreau sunbird, Banded green sunbird , Cassin's hawk eagle, Green backed honeyguide, Swynnerton's robin, Little yellow flycatcher, Ground scrapper thrush, and many more.Night at Udzungwa falls lodge

Udzungwa to Magombera Forest Reserve

We will bird the Udzungwas for half a day then after lunch drive for approximately 30 minutes to Magombera forest for the rare Lesser seedcraker and Pel's fishing owl, there are high chances here of seeing a Bohm's beeeter as well.Overnight at Udzungwa falls lodge

Kilombero Valley

We will drive to Kilombero for the three endemics, the Kilombero weaver, Kilombero and White tailed cisticolas.if we will get our target easily we will have our picnic lunch then continue birding in the cane and rice plantations till late in the evening.Night at Ifakara hotel

Ifakara to Dar es salaam

We will leave Ifakara with lunch boxes driving to dar then later on the way we will stop at Ruvu river for the recently described Ruvu weaver, then we will drive to the city or Airport for a drop off
