Day 1-Arrival and meet field crew

Then you will be transferred to a bird friendly lodge near arusha city and depending with the time of arrival you will start familiarising with the feathered friends of this area

Arusha Night is among the smallest park in Northern Tanzania yet it is more diverse than any other park in this region,From montane forest, highlands,swamps ,open plains,lakes and shrubbery it host different species of birds such as the endemic broad-ringed white-eye,the restricted range endemic taveta weaver,the near endemic sentinel lark,the rare maccoa duck,southern pochard,red billed and cape teals,fan-tailed grassbird,trilling,singing,siffling,winding and rattling cisticolas,cinnamon chested and little beeeater,bar-tailed and narina trogons,oriole finch,the east african endemic kenrick’s and abbot’s starlings,red fronted parrot,black sparrowhawk,mountain bizzard,scally spurfowl,grey headed nigrita,black headed and yellow breasted apalis.Versertile songsters such as rüppell’s robinchats and spotted palm thrush will be heard singing their hearts out to the females. Some of the mammals here includes cape buffaloes,zebras,harvey’s forest duiker,suni,bush bucks,girrafes,baboon,the endemic Kilimanjaro guerezza and syke’s monkey.

The Serengeti National park is well known for its big herds of migrating wildebeests,big cats and rolling grassy plains dotted with kopjes. Here you will experience one of the top wildlife spectacle on earth,with a list of over 600 bird species we will search for the endemic Tanzania red-billed hornbill,the endemic grey-breasted spurfowl,the near endemic grey crested helmet shrike,usambiro barbet,red throated tit, hildebrandt’s starling,karamoja apalis and kenya sparrow,we will also look for the striking eastern plantain eater with its laughing like call,the black headed gonolek is also a stunner in this magnificent part of africa,white-tailed,flappet,singing bush and melodious larks, other birds here includes swahili sparrow,red headed quelea,small button quil,black coucal,white headed sawwings,bailon’s crakes,grey-backed fiscals,stout and croaking cisticolas.

we might have missed and return to camp/lodge for hot lunch then drive towards naabi hill gate exiting late in the evening to get enough time to do the crater and the rim on the last day at the ngorongoro conservation area.

The Ndutu plains in the ngorongoro conservation area bordering the southern serengeti plains is much visited when the migrating wildebeests come to calve from mid December to march. The shorty grassy plains harbours short tailed larks,harlequin quils,yellow throated,chestnut bellied and black-faced sandgrouses,plain backed and african pipits,kori,denham’s and black bellied bustards, in the wooded area we will bird for the black-lored babbler,village ,vitelline and chestnut weavers,endemic Fischer’s lovebird,rufous chatterers,pearl spotted owlets,gabar goshawk,long crested eagle,tawny,steppe,wahberg’s and lesser spotted eagles,Many waders will also be seen on lake ndutu and masek.

The Ngorongoro crater is one of the 7th world wonders and world heritage site,The breathtaking landscape is just something you will never get enough of,just before descending to the crater we will bird for the east african endemic lynes’s cisticola and jackson’s widow birds,yellow bishop,african harrier hawk,anteater chat, abyssinian wheatear and black crowned tchgara.On the crater floor we will search for the rare african quil finch,blue-billed teal, northern shoveller,lesser and greater flamingoes,caspian ,three banded and kittlitz’s plovers,african swamphen,red-knobbed coot,yellow billed stork,african open bill,african rail,lesser swamp warbler ,red-cowled and white winged widowbirds, speke’s and holub’s golden weavers.

Half day birding at the cave trail looking for the east african endemic hunter’s cisticola,eastern double collared sunbird and mbulu white-eye.We will also bird for the magnificent looking schalow’s turaco,african broadbill,placid,grey olive and yellow bellied greenbuls,crested guinefowl ,moustached tinkerbird,purple throated and grey cuckooshrike, sharpe’s starling,grey headed sunbird,black throated wattled eye,brown headed apalis,brown backed woodpecker,red throated twinspot ,tacazze and golden wings sunbirds ,grey capped warbler,thick billed seedeater and white tailed blue flycatcher are all posible there,then return to the lodge for hot lunch and later drive to tarangire arriving late in the evening .

Better known for its large herds of elephants and massive baobab trees,this park is arguably the best in birding and maybe everyone’s favourite.in this rich habitat of acacia bushland,riverine woodlands and plains we will be spoiled by a vast array of birds,the endemics such as ashy starling,yellow collared lovebird and Emin’s barbet lives here,we will also be entertained by birds such as the silverbird,african grey flycatcher,yellow necked,red necked and the east african endemic hildebrandt’s spurfowl,red wing,greater blue-eared starling and superb starlings,bohm’s spinetails,von der deckens and northern red billed hornbills,hartlaub’s and white bellied bustards,temminck’s,two banded,three banded and violet tipped coursers,batelur,white headed, rüppell’s,white-backed and lappet faced vultures,african scops, vereaux’s eagle,and southern white faced scops owl ,many migrant warblers and swifts will be there too.

then return to the lodge for hot lunch and drive to Arusha arriving late in the evening.

The lark plains is probably the famous birding watching spot in East africa,famed by its endemic Beesley’s lark and other near endemic larks ,the nearby acacia woodlands host a good array of “maasai birds” . We will search for the near endemic athi-short toed qnd foxy larks,bare eyed thrush,grey wren and buff bellied warblers,white headed and blue naped mouse birds,ashy cisticola,greater and common kestrel,long billed pipit,little rock thrush,spotted eagle owl,barn owl, secretary bird,the near endemic southern grosbeak canary,chestnut and grey headed sparrows,isabeline and northern wheatear, vereaux’s eagle,red billed and white headed buffalo weavers,lesser masked and baglafetcht weavers.

In this dry area we will bird for the somali-maasai arid zone specialities such as the rare somali tit,somali bunting,the elegant golden breasted starling ,the rare black capped social weaver , Pringle’s puffback, pygmy batis,scally chatterer,black bellied, hunter’s and tsavo sunbirds. We will have a quick check on Shambarai swamp for any interesting waterbird and later drive to kilimanjaro international airport for drop off
